CHEERS TO 50 YEARS OF WINEMAKING!

Last week marked the beginning of Mitchell Wines 50th Vintage in the Clare Valley, South Australia! An incredible milestone and huge achievement.

Cheers to 50 years of winemaking!
Since the early 70’s Mitchell Wines has been growing and evolving. What started as Mum (Jane) and Dad (Andrew) in their 20’s, handpicking a few buckets and making their first wine, 1975 Sevenhill Dry Red Cabernet Sauvignon, in the stone cottage which is the home of their Cellar door. The Mitchell's Family now have 40 hectares under vine, a winery, a bottling line, cellaring facility and a cellar door. As a family, they continue to explore new and innovative ideas, ensuring Mitchell Wines continues to grow and evolve while still showcasing their Clare classics.

Family ideals & passion
What has always remained the same is the ideals and passions the Mitchell family and the Mitchell Wines team pursue each day in the vineyard, in the cellar and then poured in to your glass.

Winemaker Angus Mitchell says
“2024 vintage got off to an early start. All in all, what is our 50th vintage, is shaping up to be a great one for both reds and whites. While it has been dry this year, all the vineyards have remained in really good shape with a nice balance of flavours across all varieties.”

Upcoming Celebration
Keep your eyes peeled on our socials this month, as we'll be hosting a 50th Vintage Celebration at the Mitchells winery in Clare Valley. Think vineyard tour & wine tasting guided by Angus Mitchell himself.

Bel Colle - Welcome to Verduno, the green heart of Barolo!

Bel Colle from Piedmont, Italy.

We couldn’t be more excited to finally announce the addition of Bel Colle to our portfolio this February. Bel Colle is a benchmark producer from the historical commune of Verduno in Barolo.

Welcome to Verduno, the green heart of Barolo!

Cultivating 10 hectares between Verduno, the Langhe Hills, and the Astigiano area. Winemaker Luca Bosio practises sustainable viticulture and abstains from the use of any synthetic treatments, with all vineyards prepared organically and worked by hand. The estate’s vineyards include some of Barolo’s most prestigious geographical mentions; the vineyards of Monvigliero -a true expression of elegance and finesse.

Introducing the Bosio Family

Today the Bel Colle winery is run by Luca Bosio and Mario Albrito. Luca represents the new generation of the Bosio family, the courage to take new paths and the desire to expand the vineyards in the most suitable areas, experimenting with the creation of new labels. Mario, on the other hand, holds the historical knowledge of the winery.

Welcoming Auld Family Wines to the Pure Wine Co Portfolio to kick off 2024.

Welcoming Auld Family Wines
Pure Wine Co are delighted to welcome Auld Family Wines to our 2024 portfolio this February. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Barossa Valley, Auld Family Wines create wines, which capture the essence of the local terroir.

Family-owned winery presenting quality, regional Barossa wines
The estate vines hold a unique geographical position in the Barossa, combining the perfect blend of altitude, aspect and soil profile to create vibrant wines with elegance and depth.

Meet the Makers!
As a kid growing up in the Barossa Valley, wine is part of your DNA even before you’re old enough to realise it yourself. Whether it was the dried grape seeds breaking their falls from the schoolyard monkey bars - whilst kids elsewhere land on bark chips - or the ridiculously early mornings pruning vineyards as teenagers, wine quickly became a way of life for Jock and Sam Auld.

3rd Generation Barossa Winemaker Joins Dural Wines

Dural Wines – Kaesler and Saint and Scholar brands, is excited to welcome 3rd generation Barossa winemaker, Tim Dolan to the Dural team.

Son of Nigel and grandson of Bryan, arguably two of the most influential Australian winemakers of their respective eras, Tim not only has the pedigree, but the passion, experience and qualifications to go with it. Awarded Dux of the famous Len Evans Tutorial in 2018, Tim has a degree in Oenology from the University of Adelaide and is regularly selected as a judge on the Australian winemaking circuit.

Dural Wines CEO Catherine Turnadge said, “we are excited to have Tim on the team, making the wines his own and taking them to the next generation”.

After 10 years as the Senior Winemaker at Peter Lehmann Wines and various vintages in different regions across USA, Italy, Canada and Australia, Tim said, “I am looking forward to working with the vineyard assets at Kaesler and making not only the Shiraz that it’s famous for but also my favourite red variety, Grenache. In addition, it will be exciting to be a part of building Saint and Scholar with Stephen Dew, through crafting exceptional wines from the unique Gumeracha estate in the Adelaide Hills”.

Tim commences as the Chief Winemaker with Dural on the 19th September 2022, joining Senior Winemaker, Stephen Dew.

The creator of Kaesler’s famous “The Bogan” shiraz; Reid Bosward, will be handing over the reins to Tim, to take on other agricultural pursuits with Duxton Bees and regenerative farming. He will remain an important part of the business, passing his passion and knowledge to the next generation of Kaesler custodians.

New CEO of Pure Wine Co. takes national stride with Pepper Tree Wines and Longview Vineyard.

Fast-growing sales and distribution business Pure Wine Co recently signed Hunter Valley’s gem, Pepper Tree Wines, and will now nationally distribute its long-term Adelaide Hill partner, Longview Vineyard.

Pure Wine Co is a globally recognised distributor and importer of fine wine. Their portfolio represents carefully selected family wine producers, focusing on the best market representation in Australian and international markets.

Daniel Killey, Pure Wine Co’s newly appointed chief executive officer said, “Our focus is on attracting and retaining the best team and wine brands possible. The onboarding of Pepper Tree Wines and the national appointment of Longview Vineyard is a testament to this.

“Pure Wine Co has the potential to become one of Australia’s major distribution businesses. Our ambition is to build the most desirable portfolio, and the domestic market is key to our success.”

Pepper Tree Wines has been a beacon for quality wine in the heart of Hunter wine country for thirty years. Founded in 1991, it continues to flourish as one of the stalwart wine companies in the region.

While Pepper Tree Wines started with a focus solely on grapes from the Hunter Valley, almost three decades on, head winemaker Gwyn Olsen is making consistently great wines drawing on multi- regional vineyards. From Hunter and Orange in New South Wales to prized patches of soil in Coonawarra and Wrattonbully in South Australia.

“Having a distributor of this calibre and dynamism taking on our portfolio is both important and exciting, and we look forward to our next chapter. Sales and distribution are a significant aspect of our business, and we believe we have appointed the best company to do this for us”, said John Davis, Pepper Tree proprietor and managing director.

Longview Vineyards’ proprietor, Peter Saturno, is also thrilled to distribute nationally with Pure Wine Co and believes this new agreement solidifies the joint commitment between the two parties.

Since the first vintage in 2001, Longview Vineyard has become one of Adelaide Hills’ most awarded wine producers. Set on undulating slopes reminiscent of classic old-world estates, this family-owned single vineyard has a unique micro-climate suited to growing cool climate white and red wine styles.

“Having been distributed by Pure Wine Co in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia for eleven years, we are extremely excited to be moving to a national distribution model with Pure Wine Co,” said Peter.

Based in Stirling in the Adelaide Hills, Pure Wine Co operates throughout Australia, servicing independent on- and off-premise and multiple national retail accounts.

It was there where they decided on a production style inspired by best in class cider making techniques combined with family wine-making experience. Hand crafted in the Barossa Valley using 100% hand-picked fresh Australian apples and pears, the family owned Barossa Cider Company produces an authentic tank fermented Squashed Cider using luxe Champagne yeast. Mitchell Wines generational shift continues with Pure Wine Co. Partnership

Clare Valley stalwart, Mitchell Wines has announced a new distribution partnership with fast-growing sales and distribution business Pure Wine Co.

The winery is now managed by the third generation of the Mitchell family, with General Manager Angus Mitchell saying the move to Pure Wine Co. was an exciting step towards ongoing success for the brand.

Mitchell Wines recently evolved its branding, and has introduced several new styles, including its contemporary collection Kinsfolk which includes an off-dry Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, Grenache and Shiraz and to date has only been available direct to consumer via the winery website and cellar door sales.

Mitchell Wines was previously represented in the market by Red + White, with Angus thanking the Red + White team for its vital contribution to the success of the winery for many years.

“Our family has an excellent relationship with Red + White, which has spanned more than 30 years,” Angus said.

“Maintaining strong, respectful relationships remains a core value for us, and we genuinely are grateful for everything Red + White has done for Mitchell Wines over the years.

“With the recent generational shift, brand refresh and the launch of our new collections and styles, we knew it was time to explore different options within the marketplace– and Pure Wine just felt right, they are good people with good values and the right fit for us.”

Based in Stirling in the Adelaide Hills, Pure Wine Co. operates throughout Australia, servicing both independent on- and off-premise as well as the multiple national retail accounts.

“Pure Wine Co is thrilled to welcome Mitchell Wines to our portfolio and we look forward to this new chapter with an iconic brand that is a true representation of the Clare Valley region and it’s wines,” said Pure Wine Co. CEO Casey Mohr.

“A brand with rich family history in winemaking, viticulture and innovation makes for an exciting addition to the Pure Wine Co portfolio.”

For Angus, and siblings Edwina and Hilary, the partnership speaks to a focus by both businesses on quality.

“We are a proudly family owned and managed winery, with history and integrity, that is heading in a new direction under the next generation of Mitchells,” Angus said.

“We see this as a really exciting move that will ensure venues and buyers have exposure to Mitchell Wines, and see for themselves the recent changes and updates to our collections."

“One of the first steps will be making Kinsfolk available to on-premise – the feedback we have received from the public on these wines has been sensational and we can’t wait to get them in the hands of our on-premise friends throughout Australia.  The only exception to this is the Kinsfolk Gruner Veltliner, as we don’t have the volume to support on-premise distribution at this point in time.”

Pure Wine Co will represent Mitchell Wines from 28 June, 2021. Distribution of Mitchell Wines in the Northern Territory will remain with Thomas Chin and a further announcement is to come regarding distribution in Tasmania.
