2021

Super lifted and complex. Lavender, satsuma plum and liquorice spice. Summer berries, plums and licorice spice of Touriga Naçional, the Tinta Cão brings bright and fragrant blue fruit energy. Tinta Roriz brings a savoury depth to the palate to compliment the Tinta Amarela’s floral and bay leaf herbal lift. To tie everything together the finesse of Alvarelhão and the acidity of the Sousão tightens, brightens and drives the long palate. Wonderfully complex and yet medium bodied.

Yarra Yering Light Red Pinot Shiraz

2022
2023

Winemaking techniques used encourage an exotic floral fragrance coupled by an expansive fruitful palate and a fine tannin framework. Highly aromatic with a blue violet lift and summer pudding of mixed berry fruits. The palate has a light touch yet is soft and fruitful, a faint smoky grip from the use of stalks brings some structure and drive to the finish. These varieties complement each other beautifully with the perfume, silk and spice of the Pinot noir, sitting comfortably with the underlying structure of the cool climate Shiraz.

Yarra Yering Dry White Wine No.1

Lime juice, wintergreen, nashi pears and white blossom. Green pear crunch and lemony citrus characteristics from the Semillon, Chardonnay brings some greater middle palate weight and a softness from maturation in neutral oak barrels. A green apple tang driving the acidity and palate length.

Yarra Yering Agincourt Cabernet Malbec

2021
2020

Perfume is the signature of this wine with lifted violets, bramble and redcurrant fruits. Bright fruit flavours include cranberry, mulberries and blueberries. Fresh nettle presents a leafy lift and clove spices dance with vibrant acidity and the elegant fruit drive. The Malbec brings the energy and crunch to the wine. A wine of wonderful fruit purity.

Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz

2020
2021

Perfumed cool climate Shiraz; deliciously medium bodied with a lick of aniseed spice. Vibrant blue and black plum fruits bring a fresh energy to the palate along with some liquorice spice layering in structure and complexity. As always from this block we see some cured meat and a smoke-char interest driving the back palate. Medium weighted and driven by fruit purity, oak just a faint background seasoning and a bite of stalk grip interest.

Yarra Yering Dry Red No.2

2020
2021

A complex and layered wine; sweet and savoury all at once. The fragrance is a melting pot of violets, plums, savoury spices and a whiff of bramble and five spice. Moderate in weight; the summer pudding fruits come in all colours dialling up the flavour interest. There is cigar box and cardamom spice lending intrigue. Firm yet fine tannins ably support the fruit and texture drive the palate. This one is hard to put in a box, there is so much to love.

Yarra Yering Merlot

2019

Berry compote and cigar box, the softness of Merlot bringing an enticing full fruit palate. Lovely subtle warm woodsy spices like clove and cardamom adding some complexity and structure. The cool climate ensuring a lovely acid energy and line.

Vineyard

The 70 acres of vines at Yarra Yering are grown without irrigation on a northerly slope at the foot of the Warramate hills. Good drainage, all day exposure to the sun, and enough elevation from the valley floor to avoid the spring frosts produces wines that are inherently balanced, precise and elegant.

The yield is low, 1-2 tons per acre, resulting in fruit with great intensity and concentration of flavour and with an abundance of natural acidity.

The rows of vines are planted three metres apart, but in-row vine spacings vary across the vineyard, depending on grape variety and suitability to soil type.

Hand-pruning is undertaken over winter by the vineyard staff, regardless of the weather in the Yarra Valley. As the vineyard has grown in size from the original 30 acre block to the current 70 acres, new varieties have been planted to supplement the traditional cabernet, pinot, shiraz, and chardonnay.

A steep west facing hillside purchased in the 90s was terraced and planted with Portuguese varieties to take advantage of the hot afternoon sun. An East facing slope below these varieties is planted to merlot, mouvedre and petit verdot.

Yarra Yering has not stood still, the endeavor to produce better wines is pursued constantly in the winery and vineyard, maintaining its status as one of the best in the Yarra Valley.
